Health Alert: Contaminated Drugs Circulating in Community
Date: August 5, 2022
Issue: There has been an increase in suspected overdoses in the community. Contaminated drugs are suspected to be circulating, causing a delayed overdose and resulting in an increase of overdoses in Six Nations.
Signs and symptoms of an overdose include:
- Difficulty walking, talking, staying awake • Blue lips or nails • Very small pupils • Cold and clammy skin • Dizziness and confusion • Extreme drowsiness • Choking, gurgling or snoring sounds Slow, weak or no breathing • Inability to wake up, even when shaken or shouted at
How to respond to an overdose:
- Call 911
- Administer Naloxone
- Continue to assist the person until paramedics arrive
Reduce your risk of overdose:
- Never use alone
- Carry Naloxone, even if you do not expect to be using opioids.
- Remember that your drug may be contaminated with fentanyl even if you are not expecting an opioid.
