The Spirit of Giving to the Tune of $70,000
OHSWEKEN (06/12/09) – A total of 409 lights twinkled on the first annual Tree of Hope that stands in the White Pines Wellness Centre. Each light was dedicated to someone by a friend or relative. Their generosity added another $2,000 the Six Nations Health Foundations campaign for the Six Nations Dialysis Program.

“Every bulb was bought with love,” said Foundation President Ruby Jacobs.

This was a very emotional and tender night for everyone as they remembered their loved ones at Christmas. Many gave get well wishes to members of their families who need a little extra love while working their way back to health.

Since 2006, the foundation has raised $70,000 for the dialysis program through donations, benefit events, bingo, 50/50 draws and The Prophecies presentations. In January, the Foundation begins a sponsor drive for more donations.

“We are continually thinking of ways to raise this money,” said President Jacobs.

Other foundation members are vice-president Barb Harris, treasurer Marlene Martin, secretary Lillian Montour and directors Melba Thomas, bingo coordinator Lois Porter, Bertha Sky, Bonnie Davis, Viola McCarthy and Essie Martin.
